Mother's Day

Mother's Day was especially great this year. I was able to play all day with my family and I had an inspiring conversation with my Mom on the phone. It's one of the best holidays of the year because we give thanks to the wonderful women who created us and raised us..not an easy task. I find in my profession that mothers are the LEAST taken care of demographic. They're giving so much of their love, time, and energy to loved ones (and work) that they're left feeling exhausted mentally, physically, and emotionally. One hour spent relaxing often feels like a weeks vacation to them because they have so little time alone. Please treat your Mom right! I think Mom's deserve much more than a single holiday- so tell your Mom, Grandmother, or sister how wonderful they are as much as you can! Help them out before they ask for it, offer to take them to get a pedicure, cook them dinner, and always remind them to take care of themselves...sometimes they forget. I'm so grateful to have two loving mothers in my life. They both believe in me and inspire me to be a better person. I hope that one day when I'm a mother too, I can do the same for my children. I think that it's really important that we tell our loved ones how precious they are to us all year. So, make up your own "gratitude day" and give thanks to all of the things and people in your life.

Here's to all of the amazing women in my life!

All my love, Em

Kayaking The Charles

The perfect day started with taking my last final of the semester for my literature and film class at 8am. I went home, put on my new red bikini with white polka-dots and my shades, grabbed sunblock, a towel, and a change of clothes then headed off to 3 stops: #1 friends house, #2 Coffee shop, #3 food place. We drove to Charles River Canoe & Kayak in Newton (http://www.paddleboston.com/main.php) which is a hidden jewel!

I've only been Kayaking a handful of times, so I was really looking forward to this adventure. It was 85 degrees and not a cloud in the sky...HEAVEN! When we drove up, I got so excited I started bouncing in my seat the way Pop Rocks do when you put a handful in your mouth!

After I quickly ejected myself from the vehicle, I made a b-line to the info desk. Basically all you do is show up, they give you the kayak
and oar you want, and you're off to explore. I spent about 2hrs doing just that and enjoying the warm breeze in my hair and watching dogs on the shore. One black lab thought it would be a better idea to try to fetch me rather than his lame tennis ball! Fortunately for both of us, I was out a little too far!

I love having outdoor adventures because its fun and I always meet really nice people. Everyone on the water that were kayaking, fishing, or throwing tennis balls were really friendly. One of the highlights of my trip was splashing water on myself and dispelling all of the rumors that the Charles River is full of trash and toxic chemicals...I didn't get one chemical burn! Also, for some reason, I really enjoyed the lily pads poking out and seeing fish bubbles on the surface of the water.

Sadly the only picture I took was on one of those lame-o disposable cameras. Boooo. I promise I will be smarter next time and bring my trusty digital.

If this is something you're interested in, let me know because I'm definitely going back soon. It's
inexpensive and you're free to go as far as you like as long as you're back before sundown.

This new blog thingy

So, here it is! My official blog. I owe thanks to my step-mom Elizabeth for the namesake- thats her little nickname for me! Every time I call, she says "Hello Emily-bemily" I don't think she even realizes it which is the funny part! It's cute.

I will be blogging more regularly leading up to my trip to Spain and hopefully future destinations. Feel free to pass the link along to other friends and family so we can all stay connected.

Lots of love,

Em
